Dark UI, Expandable Panels, Start Tab
You asked for it – and we delivered. In BricsCAD® V20, you can toggle between the classic light user interface and the new Dark UI with a click. New expandable panels, consistent and familiar workspaces, and BricsCAD’s new Start tab will speed your design tasks.
“We met with CAD users across the globe to learn what was most important to you in a CAD application. From a modern interface to intelligent productivity tools, BricsCAD® V20 is designed to help you work faster and smarter, not harder!” – Heidi Hewett, BricsCAD® Product Owner
Productivity Tools
New and improved productivity tools, such as Copy Guided and Blockify, take advantage of the leading developments in AI and machine learning to automate repetitive, multi-step tasks like copying geometry and converting entities into blocks.
New Civil Modeling Tools
Leveraging our geometry expertise, BricsCAD® V20 offers extended modeling workflows for creating and editing TIN surfaces, grading, and alignments. Now, you can create, visualize, and analyze Civil designs in real-time with excellent performance and CAD accuracy. Best of all? No object enablers are required to view and analyze Civil geometry. And this new functionality is backed by a rich API that will allow Bricsys Collective partners to build powerful analytics tools for Civil Engineering design.
“The new AI functions and Civil features are redefining what is possible in DWG -based CAD, at a price point that will make our customers smile. We’re continuing to offer a real choice to our customers with our licensing model – Subscription or perpetual, it’s your choice.” – Robert Green, Director of Implementation at Bricsys.
Bricsys 24/7® Panel
We’re bringing the power of Bricsys 24/7® collaboration to the BricsCAD® V20 product family. Deeply integrated into BricsCAD® V20, Bricsys 24/7 combines cloud storage with the desktop capabilities of CAD, to streamline and improve collaboration between design team members. The user interface of the web application was not only re-designed but also reengineered from the ground up using the latest technologies, making the entire product much faster and smoother to work with. In V20, we introduce a native 24/7 Application for iOS and Android devices. With a direct link to the design team wherever you go, you can speed through site inspections and follow-ups in record time. And best of all, the new Bricsys 24/7® Free features and cloud storage are introduced to all BricsCAD® Maintenance customers at no extra cost.
Bricsys 24/7® is our SaaS-based Common Data Environment (CDE). It is used to manage documents, routings, and communications for large-scale building and construction products daily. In use for over a decade, with hundreds of thousands of users, Bricsys 24/7 is the CDE beyond compare.
“I feel like we’ve made a major leap in the redesign of 24/7. We’ve kept things simple and intuitive while ensuring that our power users have the flexibility they need. We’ve been promising good things to come, and I’m happy to announce that we have a true collaboration solution to offer our customers.” – Frederik Van Hoyweghen, Bricsys 24/7® Product Owner.

Bricscad Pro V20
BricsCAD
Last year, we tested the startup performance of several versions of AutoCAD and BricsCAD to see how the speed has changed over the years, and compare the two programs. With the recent release of AutoCAD 2021, we added its times — along with those of BricsCAD V20 Ultimate — to the rankings.
Johnny depp twitter. The results: AutoCAD 2021 is a little quicker to start than its recent predecessors, while BricsCAD V20 is a little slower (but still faster overall than AutoCAD).
In addition to AutoCAD 2021, AutoCAD 2019 and AutoCAD 2020 were retested to ensure a fair comparison. BricsCAD V20 Ultimate was tested and compared to last year’s data for BricsCAD V19 Platinum.
Times were recorded for a cold start — opening the program after a computer restart — and a warm start — opening the program after it has already been opened during the session, which is typically faster than a cold start. Times were taken at two points during startup: the time it takes for the program to open, and the time it takes to be able to execute commands. Times were rounded to the nearest half-second.
The methodology is explained in greater detail at the bottom of this post.
Time to Open
As shown in the graph and table below, the time it takes AutoCAD to open remained consistent for a cold start and trended downward for a warm start. BricsCAD, on the other hand, trended upward in both cases and was even beaten out by AutoCAD 2021 on a warm start.
Cold Start | Warm Start | Cold Start | Warm Start |
---|---|---|---|
AutoCAD 2019 | 6.5 seconds | 4 seconds | |
BricsCAD V19 Platinum | 4 seconds | 2 seconds | |
AutoCAD 2020 | 6.5 seconds | 3 seconds | |
BricsCAD V20 Ultimate | 5 seconds | 3 seconds | |
AutoCAD 2021 | 6.5 seconds | 2.5 seconds |
Time to Run Commands
Similar to the open time, the time it takes for AutoCAD to accept commands trended downward for AutoCAD and upward for BricsCAD (though its command times are still significantly faster than for AutoCAD).
Cold Start | Warm Start | Cold Start | Warm Start |
---|---|---|---|
AutoCAD 2019 | 13.5 seconds | 9 seconds | |
BricsCAD V19 Platinum | 5 seconds | 3 seconds | |
AutoCAD 2020 | 10 seconds | 7 seconds | |
BricsCAD V20 Ultimate | 6 seconds | 4 seconds | |
AutoCAD 2021 | 11.5 seconds | 6 seconds |
Method
For each version of AutoCAD and BricsCAD, a Lisp file was added to the startup suite that had two functions: outputting the time to the command line as soon as the program opened, and defining a command that would output the time to the command line. The software was opened through a batch file that also logged the time. Each version was configured to open to a new drawing immediately with no startup dialogs. Each execution time, open time, and command time was recorded, rounded to the nearest second, to determine the elapsed time.

Times were taken twice for each version and start type, with the result being the average of the times.
